Food at AS220 Providence RI

Last night I went to a local hot spot in Providence RI. AS220 has a cafe on Empire st that offers a boat load of vegan options! They had super amazing absolutely wonderful local sodas! I am not a soda drinker, but I used to be and have a strong love for Birch Beer! So I went ahead and got it :) Yummm! For an Entree I got the Grilled Chicken with follow your heart Mozz, spinach and apple butter. The apple butter was really good, chicken so so and mozz just fine. My major complaint was the grilled bread! OMG break your teeth and cut your gums. I had a hard time enjoying the sandwich as a whole! The mac and cheese was also so so. It had a smoky imitation bacon flavor going on. Ehh. All in all I would eat there again and try some soups, salads and sides!

Sweet Freedom Bakery, Philadelhia

I have an attitude adjustment to make about this bakery. Recently, the owners had some pretty ignorant things to say about vegans. You can read if yourself in this link http://www.philly.com/inquirer/entertainment/20101121_Sweet_Freedom_bakery_on_South_Street__vegan_and_gluten-free.html . They will no longer have my business.

So I finally made it over to Sweet Freedom on South Street in Philadelphia, PA. I do not need gluten free, but I do need vegan, so I gave it a whirl. I have to say, it wasn't that bad. For me it is hard to say amazing since most of the time I don't prefer garbanzo bean flour, but they had a good flavor. I bought all 3 of their cookie cream pie flavors (Oatmeal with vanilla butter cream, Chocolate chip with vanilla butter cream, and chocolate chip with chocolate butter cream). 3 of us voted and feel that chocolate butter cream was by far the best.

It is a cute shop, small but cozy. I think there was seating for maybe 4-6 people. They had a small cooler of drinks, coconut water being my favorite. They have a 10 dollar limit on credit card usage. Know this if you only plan on buying a snack or 2. We had to purchase the 3rd item just to be allowed to use the cc machine.

Horizon's Philadelphia Vegan Restaurant

I finally got to go to Horizon's over the weekend. I am used to trying out fancy vegan foods from living in San Francisco, so I had high hopes for this place. Let me tell you, it lived up to my expectations! The place was very small on the inside, which surprised me a little. It was dimly lit, romantic setting, strange music (didn't fit the ambiance). Now to the food! I know menus change often, but I will list everything I had so you can get excited for your visit!

Govinda's Vegetarian Restaurant, Philladelphia, PA

This is for those who crave the occasional cheese steak in their lives! Govinda's has an amazing Chicken Cheese steak! I had one tonight, topped with soy cheese and vegan mayo! I jumped for joy when she asked if I wanted mayo, it has been too long since I have had hot mayo in a sandwich! My sister had the chicken quesadilla with soy cheese and BBQ dipping sauce. (which was also delish!). They have a case full of desserts from Vegan Treats as well. I ordered a cinnamon roll smothered in cream cheese frosting. I am not gonna lie, it was the best cinnamon roll I have EVER had! We ate half before our food arrived. The point is, swing by this cafe bc you will not be disappointed! :D

Fire and Spice Hartford, Connecticut

Ok, now my travels have me eating in Hartford , Connecticut. Honestly I was worried I was going to starve to death here. Luckily, I came across a place so delightful I almost peed my pants! This place uses organic ingredients, pumps out fresh juices like no tomorrow, and has a small selection of desserts. The really cool thing about this place is how much food you get for the price! I think my plate weighed about 4 pounds, and I paid 11 bucks! There were greens, rices, beans, tofu dishes dumplings! You can pick the size of the container you want, and they will fill it full of everything they have in the store. You get a platter that samples the tastes of everything! Just know when you go, things may take a little longer than most cafes. It is a relaxed environment. There was reggae on the radio and a pile of veg magazines for you to look through while you wait. Plus, on their website, they have a coupon! Woooohoooo save some dough!

Cafe Evolution, Florence Mass

So I have been doing some road tripping lately, and I want to tell you about my finds! Consider me Happy Karen instead of Happy Cow. Ok, what I really want to say is there is an AMAZING vegen cafe in the middle of a cute town called Florence Massachusetts. It has tons of vegan comfort foods. The setting in the cafe is artistic and comfortable. There are couches, chairs, pillows, and awesome Polaroid art on the walls. The owner is a super cool, down to earth artist! I had a GIANT mocha cupcake, filled with heaven! I had something like a potpie, which made me cry a little on the inside. The flavors were seriously too good to be true! I have eaten as some seriously expensive, fancy vegan restaurants, and they all have nothing on this place!

3 Brothers Pizza (VEGAN) LONG ISLAND NY

Ok, so go to 3 brothers pizza. It is that easy. Go, get a vegan pie, eat until you can't eat anymore (which may be just one slice!). I got the buffalo chicken pizza, added onions and pineapple. OMG (that is oh my god for those of you who may not know). The place has "normal" people food as well, so you can go with friends who are not vegan and everyone is happy. Woohoo happy. In all seriousness, this place gets 2 thumbs up! They also have desserts, and it is affordable. Good times all around. Oh and, they use Daiya cheese if that is something that tickles your fancy. I know it made my happy :)
