Horizon's Philadelphia Vegan Restaurant

I finally got to go to Horizon's over the weekend. I am used to trying out fancy vegan foods from living in San Francisco, so I had high hopes for this place. Let me tell you, it lived up to my expectations! The place was very small on the inside, which surprised me a little. It was dimly lit, romantic setting, strange music (didn't fit the ambiance). Now to the food! I know menus change often, but I will list everything I had so you can get excited for your visit!

I had:

Salt Roasted Golden Beets ($9)
house smoked tofu, avocado, red onion & capers, cucumber dill sauce, pumpernickel point

and

Grilled Seitan ($21)
yukon mash, grilled spinach, horseradish cream and roasted red pepper tapenade

Both were amazing! The beets were very tender and went well with the cucumber dill sauce. The grilled seitan is something I want to go back for as I type this. It felt like I was eating something straight off the BBQ! It has burnt pieces that tasted just like charcoal. I felt like I was sitting on a patio on a warm summer night!

I had my brother in law with me, who has never tried vegan food before. He was convinced that the Jamaican BBQ Seitan, jícama slaw, smoked chile dip was real pork. He was ecstatic with the place! (always a good sign when the meat eaters want to go back).
