Green Tips

Hello Bloggers!

I picked up a book last night at Borders for $1. I am very excited to share this with you, being it can help save the world one day at a time. (If only it were that simple!). The book is called The Green Year, by Jodi Helmer. She has some really great tips, so I will post or a day or so, and hopefully inspire you to make small changes as the days go on.

So let's get started!!!

Tip of the day:

Say "NO" to ATM receipts.

I personally use to always collect them, let them sit in my car, and never look at them again! There is no need for them! Think of how many trees can be saved if everyone you knew skipped the receipt. Pretty cool little tip!

School day 2

Ok, today is day 2 of my online education. What info have I acquired thus far you ask?? Well,I can navigate the ipod they gave me, and I can follow directions on a forum. I did however get stuck in a waiting room today where I read through the first 4 chapters of the Integrative Nutrition book. Most of it was not new to me being I have been obsessively reading about the dangers on meat, dairy, pesticides and herbicides for the past several years now. So one fact I will share today will be about ORGANICS.

The Dirty Dozen... These are the 12 fruits and veggies you should always buy organic.

Celery
Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Blueberries
Nectarines
Bell Peppers
Spinach
Cherries
Kale/Collard
Greens
Potatoes
Grapes (Imported)

The Clean 15... Save your $ and buy these conventional

Onions
Avocado
Sweet Corn
Pineapple
Mangos
Sweet Peas
Asparagus
Kiwi
Cabbage
Eggplant
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Grapefruit

Melon

Yes it is very important to eat organic! You will hear people tell you that you are wasting your money. The fact is, you may spend a little more money now on quality healthy food and SAVE big on health expenses in the future.

Been a while

As I said in the beginning, I am probably not going to be great at this! So many things start happening then before you know it, something gets pushed back. I am going to try and keep up with this now. I doubt that many people even follow this, but I hope it keeps me motivated for my upcoming adventures! I am going to start IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition). Hopefully I can find my way in life by making others happy and healthy! Food is my passion and I would love nothing more than to change the lives of others by reducing the toxins they put in their body (without even knowing it!) and eliminating animals from their diets. (bc they are not healthy for you to eat!) So good luck to me!

Food at AS220 Providence RI

Last night I went to a local hot spot in Providence RI. AS220 has a cafe on Empire st that offers a boat load of vegan options! They had super amazing absolutely wonderful local sodas! I am not a soda drinker, but I used to be and have a strong love for Birch Beer! So I went ahead and got it :) Yummm! For an Entree I got the Grilled Chicken with follow your heart Mozz, spinach and apple butter. The apple butter was really good, chicken so so and mozz just fine. My major complaint was the grilled bread! OMG break your teeth and cut your gums. I had a hard time enjoying the sandwich as a whole! The mac and cheese was also so so. It had a smoky imitation bacon flavor going on. Ehh. All in all I would eat there again and try some soups, salads and sides!

Sweet Freedom Bakery, Philadelhia

I have an attitude adjustment to make about this bakery. Recently, the owners had some pretty ignorant things to say about vegans. You can read if yourself in this link http://www.philly.com/inquirer/entertainment/20101121_Sweet_Freedom_bakery_on_South_Street__vegan_and_gluten-free.html . They will no longer have my business.

So I finally made it over to Sweet Freedom on South Street in Philadelphia, PA. I do not need gluten free, but I do need vegan, so I gave it a whirl. I have to say, it wasn't that bad. For me it is hard to say amazing since most of the time I don't prefer garbanzo bean flour, but they had a good flavor. I bought all 3 of their cookie cream pie flavors (Oatmeal with vanilla butter cream, Chocolate chip with vanilla butter cream, and chocolate chip with chocolate butter cream). 3 of us voted and feel that chocolate butter cream was by far the best.

It is a cute shop, small but cozy. I think there was seating for maybe 4-6 people. They had a small cooler of drinks, coconut water being my favorite. They have a 10 dollar limit on credit card usage. Know this if you only plan on buying a snack or 2. We had to purchase the 3rd item just to be allowed to use the cc machine.
